Coaching is just one of many ways you can be part of Girls on the Run RI. Please review the following volunteer opportunities and submit a VOLUNTEER APPLICATION if you are interested in becoming involved!
Commitment: Girls on the Run Rhode Island board members serve a 2-year term starting each year in June. Board meetings are held monthly during September – June in the evening. In addition to attending regular scheduled board meetings each board member is required to attend all fundraising events and serve on a committee.
Description: The Girls on the Run Rhode Island Board of Directors is a strong and active body governing and working to serve the adolescent girls of Rhode Island. We are seeking board members that are passionate about our mission and have experience with accounting, finance, law, human resources, leadership, fundraising, grant writing, or events. Committment: Meets at least monthly with a focus on GOTRRI fund development plan creation, implementation, messaging, and oversight.
Description: This committee oversees all planning workgroups and supports individual board member efforts to give and get funds for GOTRRI. They assist staff in the implementation, coordination, and messaging of development efforts. Opportunities available with Signature Events, Community Giving Events, Individual Giving, 5K Sponsorships, Grants, and Marketing/Communications.
5K Committee Member
Commitment: Meetings are held once per month beginning in late August and concluding in May. Individual committee member workload is dependent on your committee role which you select based on your interest/capacity. All committee members attend race day, most in a Team Captain role!
Description: As you already know, we inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident by creatively integrating running and physical activity as a way to set goals and build confidence. Our 5Ks are the culminating event where this all comes together for our girls and the 5K Committee makes these amazing days happen! Members of the 5K Committee commit to planning, coordinating and executing both the fall and spring 5k events. There are many different committee roles depending on your capacity/interests. The main responsibilities of the committee are securing in-kind donations (ie: water, refreshments, etc.), recruiting volunteers, managing volunteers on day-of, planning and organizing race village activities, recruiting SoleMates, and promoting the spring public 5K.
5K SuperStar Runner
Commitment: Race day!
Description: Ready. Set. Go! Lace up your sneakers, put on a GOTR cape and get ready for a 5k experience unlike any other. As a 5K SuperStar you will run the course providing energy, motivation and high-fives to all runners! We ask you to keep your cell phone on you and keep an eye out for any safety issues, especially with our girls. Sometimes, in the event that one of our girls does not have a running buddy, we may pair her with a SuperStar!
5K Race Volunteer
Commitment: Race day! (November and May)
Description: Whether you spray hair wild with color or pass out water to our finishers, there is a place for everyone at our 5K Event. Each season we lean on the support of over 100 volunteers to make this special day a huge success.
Commitment: Event Specific (defined by you)
Description: Whether you’re training for a 5K, an obstacle course race, triathlon, marathon or anything in between dedicate your effort to Girls on the Run RI by becoming a SoleMate! Having your friends and family support your training with a donation will provide the extra motivation you need to keep working towards your goal! Did you know that each season we provide financial assistance to 50% of our girls and full scholarships to 25% of our girls? This past fall 2015 and spring 2016 we served over 400 girls and awarded over $20,000 in financial assistance – over 200 girls would not have crossed the finish line if it were not for people like YOU, their SoleMates. It’s fun, easy and a great way to share your story and journey! READ MORE HERE.
